Home Sleep Test in Mosman
One of the latest features that’s promoted to sell adjustable mattresses is their ability to raise the head of the snoring partner. While this may be a temporary fix, getting to the root of the problem and correcting it is preferable.
Symptoms like waking, still feeling tired and unrefreshed, or falling asleep watching TV, working on your computer, or sitting at your desk can all be traced to poor sleep habits. Or maybe your partner’s loud snoring keeps you from resting well. Sleep apnoea may be to blame.
Snoring and Sleep Apnoea
Sleep apnoea is a serious disorder that causes people to stop breathing for short time periods during sleep. Referred to as obstructive sleep apnoea or OSA, a person with OSA may have 30 or more breathing pauses per hour. This results in the person intermittently awakening, then falling asleep again. The fact they hear you stop breathing during your slumber may also concern your partner.
Why Should I Get Tested?
Untreated sleep apnoea leads to ongoing fatigue and potentially serious problems. These include high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, heart failure, depression and more.
If you’re experiencing consistent snoring, there’s a good chance you could also have sleep apnoea. A test helps determine if you have this condition. While many practices send you to a centre where you spend the night, these tests are inaccurate representations of what your slumber is like, because you’re in an unfamiliar setting.
At Hugh Fleming Dentistry, we provide our patients with a home sleep test. The MediByte® Junior sleep test is a portable, non-invasive device that can diagnose sleep apnoea quickly and easily. It’s a good choice for people uncomfortable with traditional tests.
The MediByte® Junior is an easy to use, convenient, pocket-sized device that measures eight different channels:
- Oximetry
- Heart Rate
- Pressure Flow
- Snore (derived from pressure)
- RIP Chest Effort
- Body Position (internal sensor)
- CPAP Flow
- CPAP Pressure
- PPG (Photoplethysmograph)
