Restore Your Beautiful Smile at Hugh Fleming Dentistry

Dentist holding implant modelOur professional dental team have extensive experience within dental implant surgery, allowing them to successfully restore missing teeth right here in our dental clinic. Dr Fleming has been successfully placing and restoring implants for over  30 years and holds a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) from the University of Sydney, where he has frequently lectured both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the placement and restoration of dental implants.

Thanks to our highly advanced dental technology and equipment, even complex dental implant procedures can be completed in-house. Through the combined use of  3D Cone Beam diagnostic imaging, 3D CEREC digital design and SICAT precision guided surgery all our implant surgeries are performed with the highest degree of precision and accuracy with a “keyhole” approach resulting in minimal post-operative side effects or discomfort.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant acts as an artificial tooth root that is screwed into the jaw bone. It is made from highly durable and long-lasting titanium and serves as an anchor to hold a replacement tooth (the crown) or a bridge in place.

The Dental Implant Process

Our dental implant process begins with a detailed 3D radiological and clinical assessment of the patient’s implant needs. Based on this assessment a 3D digital mock-up of the proposed completed treatment outcome is then designed and presented to both the patient and the clinician to obtain a clear picture of the final implant solution. Once the planned outcome is agreed upon this is then imported into our 3D radiological implant planning software to establish a precise implant placement plan with the highest degree of accuracy and safety. This precise implant placement plan is then exported to an implant guide manufacturer for the manufacture of a precision surgical “keyhole” implant placement guide which is utilized at the time of implant placement.

The dental implant placement procedure takes between 60 – 90 minutes depending on the complexity of the case and is done through a keyhole surgical approach. This results in minimal post-operative discomfort and side effects with some patients reporting going back to work the same day. In some instances, the implant(s) can be provisionally restored at the same time as they are placed or later on the same day (all on 4 implant procedure).

Following a suitable period of implant healing (3-4 months) the final permanent implant prosthesis (crown or bridge) is then digitally designed, manufactured and inserted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are dental implants, and how do they work?
Dental implants are made from durable titanium structure, which are placed in the position of where the missing to was. They are surgically placed into the jawbone to act as an anchor for replacement tooth or teeth, such as crowns or bridges. This restores both function, appearance and confidence. For more details, visit our website.

Who is a good candidate?

Candidates typically include individuals with missing tooth or teeth ,who have good overall oral health and sufficient bone density to support the dental implant/s. A consultation and radiographic evaluation are needed to determine suitability.

How long do they last?

With proper care, these tooth replacements may last many years, often decades. Regular checkups and good oral hygiene are key to their longevity.

What is the process of getting dental implants?

The process includes the following:
A 3D radiological and clinical assessment
Precise digital planning of the outcome of the procedure
Placement of the implant using a minimally invasive “keyhole” surgical approach
A healing period of three to four months, followed by the placement of a custom-designed permanent crown or bridge

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure is performed using a minimally invasive technique designed to reduce discomfort. Patients commonly report minimal side effects and may even return to work the same day. For anxious patients the procedure can be done under IV sedation (Twilight sedation.)
How do I care for my dental implants?
Caring for your new restorations involves maintaining excellent oral hygiene by brushing and flossing daily and attending regular dental check-ups with your dentist and dental hygienist to ensure the health of the implant and the surrounding tissues.

How much do they cost?

The cost of dental implants varies based on the complexity of the case and the number of implants required. Schedule a consultation to receive a personalised care plan and cost estimate.

Can dental implants be used to replace multiple teeth?

Yes, these tooth restorations can support multiple replacement teeth, either through individual crowns or as part of a bridge or denture system. Dental implants can be used to replace a full arch of teeth with a procedure called All on 4.

Are dental implants better than dentures or bridges?

These tooth replacements are often preferred for their durability, natural appearance, and ability to preserve jawbone health. Unlike dentures, they do not shift or require adhesives. However, the best option depends on individual needs and preferences.

What happens if I don’t have enough bone for an implant?

If there is insufficient bone, options like bone grafting or other advanced techniques can be used to prepare the site for implant placement. Your dentist will evaluate your case and discuss the best approach.
